Tanya Matthews is the President and Chairman of the Board of The Matthews Group, Inc. t/a TMG Construction Corporation, which she co-founded in 1992 as an innovative, leading design-builder and general contractor. Known as a pioneer in the design-build and IDIQ arenas who has worked in the industry for over 50 years, Tanya has played an integral role in growing the company and leading business efforts in the federal, municipal, institutional and commercial construction service markets.
Tanya has strategically negotiated various levels of contracts while overseeing repeat multi-million dollar agreements with agencies including the US Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, The World Bank, USACE-Baltimore District, US Department of the Navy, Boeing, National Park Service and the Federal Aviation Administration to name a few. She enjoys establishing and maintaining business relationships, which has been the cornerstone of success for the company.
Recognized internationally as an expert in the design-build field, Tanya has been highlighted in Engineering News-Record magazine as a top industry leader and was featured in Enterprising Women magazine as “Enterprising Woman of the Year.” She also served as Chairman of the Board of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and was recently recognized with the Jack Kinnaman AIC Leadership Award by the American Institute of Constructors. In addition to receiving numerous accolades such as the AIC’s Walter A. Nashert, Sr. Constructor Award for Ethics and Integrity, Tanya holds multiple professional certifications including the designation of Industrial Security Professional (ISP®) from the National Classification Management Society (NCMS). Tanya’s focus and expertise in security gave TMG the honor of being the Cogswell Award recipient from the Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency. TMG is the only construction company in history that has received this award.
As an active member of local and national Boards of Directors, including serving as the National Treasurer and Accreditation Chairman of the National Classification Management Society (NCMS), a Trustee of the Washington Airports Task Force, an immediate past Chairman of the AIC College of Fellows and immediate past Chairman of the AIC Education Foundation, Tanya is proud to lead a successful and highly regarded company in the industry.
