TMG was awarded the kitchen and cafeteria renovation project for William Ramsay Elementary School which is part of Alexandria City Public Schools.
Originally built in 1957, William Ramsay Elementary is the alma mater of Jonathan Quintanilla, the Assistant Project Manager on this project! Given the school’s age, several discrepancies were discovered between the original drawings and actual field condition, including structural elements that required extensive scaffolding to repair.
The project was executed in two phases. The first phase, which was completed while school was in session, focused on renovating the kitchen and building the walk-in addition. This included demolition and rebuilding the new addition. The second and final phase involved cafeteria renovations, such as installing a new ceiling grid and tiles, the installation of new lost & found casework, upgrading to LED light fixtures, and adding sound-absorbing ceiling baffles to improve acoustics.
Key upgrades included removing and replacing the walk-in cooler and freezer in the new addition and outfitting the kitchen with modern equipment and server tables. A new office, locker room, and restroom for the kitchen staff were also built, in addition to new steel columns that were built to support the mechanical rooftop equipment dunnage.
